Consider writing a personal paraphrase of the preamble, which offers fellow citizens mutual appreciation:  For discussion, I convert the preamble’s predicate phrases to nouns and paraphrase it for my interpretation of its proposal as follows We the People of the United States proffer & practice 5 public disciplines —- integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” encourage & facilitate responsible-human-independence “to ourselves and our Posterity”. I want to improve my interpretation by listening to other citizens and their interpretations yet would preserve the original, 1787, text, unless it is amended by the people.

It seems the Supreme Court occasionally refers to it, and no one has challenged whether or not the preamble is a legal statement. The fact that it changed this independent country from a confederation of states to a union of states deliberately managed by disciplined fellow citizens convinces me the preamble is legal. Equity in opportunity and outcome is shared by the people who collaborate for human justice.

Every citizen has equal opportunity to either trust-in and collaborate-on the goals stated in the preamble or be dissident to the agreement. I think 2/3 of citizens try somewhat to use the preamble but many do not articulate commitment to the goals. However, it seems less than 2/3 understand that “posterity” implies grandchildren. “Freedom of religion,” which fellow citizens have no means to discipline, oppresses freedom to develop integrity.

Following the political philosophies of Englishman John Locke, Anglo-American tradition has bemused humankind’s civic duty --- peace on earth --- with entitlement to the extremely wealthy. As Locke-God “property”, Deists and Protestant Christians have rights to life, liberty, and property (and antinomianism).

However, the uSA’s founders preferred “pursuit of happiness” in adult-personal-privacy rather than government imposition for Locke-God’s property. The 1776 Declaration cited “Nature’s God” for human authority, without disparaging the English Trinity. Their-Trinity was reforming to Protestantism as of their 1689 Bill of Rights. In 1778, the founders negotiated military providence from France. Thus, they separated church and state.

The 1787 framers upheld the 1776 Declaration’s separation of church and state, creating a representative republic with 5 public disciplines whereby the “ourselves and our Posterity” hold local, state, and federal government accountable. The 5 disciplines are: integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” encourage & facilitate responsible-human-independence (RHI) “to ourselves and our Posterity”.

We, the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” have the opportunity to end the tyranny.

My email message has the question “What is the importance of patriotism and nationalism in our lives?”

It’s important to me, because as an adolescent in a Southern Baptist family and community, my unique person (every human-being has one) was attracted to the-ineluctable-truth and did not know it. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted”.

Now, in my fourth quarter-century, I think female & male-humankind is charged by necessity & justice to independently provide order and prosperity to the living species and to the earth: to develop and maintain responsible-human-independence (RHI).

I think the founding fathers, in the 1776 declaration of war for independence from England then the framers, in the 1787 draft U.S. Constitution, together specified a representative republic to develop RHI. The Declaration separated church and state. The draft Constitution upheld that politic and specified five public disciplines by which the entity We the People of the United States would develop RHI.

The disciplines are integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity “to ourselves and our Posterity”: no religious discipline. Two of the nine required states ratified on the condition that an English-like Bill of Rights be added by the First Congress. The 1689 English Bill of Rights constitutionally requires a Protestant monarchy.

The 1789 Congress unconstitutionally re-established factional-American-Protestant-partnership to assume egocentric “divinity” on par with Parliament and its 26 seats to the Church of England. Congress imposed “theistic freedom” bemusing fellow citizens from independence: RHI. Congress, in 1791, committed legislative tyranny and the Supreme Court affirms the despotism to this day.

We, the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” must and can restore the nation to the 1787 RHI. The first step is to amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate civic humble-integrity rather than Congressional religious-pride.

Necessity & justice require the human-being to practice responsible-human-independence (RHI). Not every human-being accepts that premise. Some want dependence, and others want power. They interact to dominate the civic-citizens who practice RHI.

So many people accept dependency that the despot has the freedom-to accumulate wealth and military power, free of responsibility. Thereby, the despot is also free to license liberty to citizens who help them maintain the tyranny. In capitalism, the despot funds consumption by the poor so as to favor entrepreneurs who aid them.

Tyranny is especially effective when the despot partners with religion. In that case, the civic citizen looks to the-God to relieve the misery and loss. They’re being played for 2 entitlements: the tyrants to accumulate wealth and the dependents to receive freedom & liberty. They inculcate the hope in the-God to their children, and thus, RHI never gets started.

Only when 2/3 of fellow citizens comprehend and practice RHI can the tyranny be stopped. Otherwise, GDP will continue as entitlement to the elites.

Of course I don’t know how entitlement starts, yet have a theory: most individuals neglect RHI -- responsible-human-independence, a civic duty. “Civic” refers to human connections more than municipal rules. And it refers to encouragement & facilitation more than compassion.

Scholars tell us that after humankind emerged as homo sapiens (wise) maybe 300 thousand years ago, civilizations developed languages starting about 150 thousand years ago, then grammar about 5 thousand years ago. Humankind has come a long way in only 5 thousand years. Perhaps early homo integritas (integrity) is leading humankind to explore the universe, formerly called “the heavens”. The opportunity for RHI seems expanding, after centuries of neglect.

Empowered with grammar, an ancient political-suggestion emerged in the Middle East: female & male-humankind can & must independently provide order --- for prosperity to the living species and to the earth. Order is opposite of chaos and infidelity.

About then, some polytheistic cultures were developing dogmatic monotheisms. Some cultures attributed the ancient political philosophy to the-God, subject to their creation doctrine. They would hold their God responsible for humankind’s obligation; the consequence is chaos. Today, while humankind explores “the heavens” we suffer diverging chaos. I attribute the chaos to cultural neglect of the RHI suggested by the ancient philosophy.

Arbitrary subjugation of the-God seems apparent in Genesis 1 and Genesis 2, with names Elohim then Yahweh, respectively.

Scholars since then journaled exponential increase in chaos but in sophistries that impose a theism rather than encourage & facilitate humankind’s necessity & justice (obligation) to develop peace on earth. Many of the cultures constructed a doctrinal-God they claim to be the-God. Either out of fear of the unknown or ambition for power, advocates accept one of the doctrinal-Gods, without imagining the-God in the psychological image of female & male humankind:  The-God might resent either insufficient appreciation or misrepresentation for personal power.

Worldwide, some political philosophies preserve humankind’s power & obligation to independently provide peace. For examples, Ātman, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism are philosophies rather than theologies.

Cultures in the Middle East founded about half the world’s spiritual ideologies in monotheism: doctrinal-Gods culturally exalted as the-God. Western philosophies emerged among the chaos, carried by well-paid scholars. Normally, the scholars debate the human-condition in adulthood. They don’t explore the individual’s first-quarter-century, amazing transition from feral-infant to young adult with comprehension & intention to live a complete human lifetime . . . or not. Consequently, mankind is presented as selfish rather than compassionate.

Western scholars obfuscate a duality --- atheism accused by theism, reality disputed by reason, physics questioned by metaphysics; education spoiled by inculcation; self-discipline discouraged by socialism; greed assuaged by philanthropy. Western scholars debate “natural law theory” or “ontology”, the study of the nature of being or becoming. Scholarly language bemuses civic people, who prefer mutual, comprehensive safety & security, in order to pursue the happiness they perceive as their life unfolds rather than submit to someone else’s vision for them. Civic people demand personal-privacy. Physics and its progeny --- mathematics, electromagnetic waves, chemistries, biology, psychology, imagination, fiction, indeed everything, is discoverable by research. If a theory is imagined and research has not disproved it, the theory remains, waiting for invention of new instruments of perception that might prove it. There’s no incentive to discard a theory until it’s ineluctably disproven. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted”, merriam-webster.com. For example, the earth is neither flat, nor firmament with water below and heavens above, nor the center of the universe. Similarly, no human-being can specify the-God.

The process for research maintains fidelity to the-ineluctable-evidence, which exists. Humankind’s task is to discover the laws that govern the evidence and how to use it for RHI. For example, we now know that the sun, once considered a God in different cultures, is a natural nuclear-reactor and its rays can both kill on over-exposure (invoking fear) and power a city. Some cities use nuclear-fission to produce electricity, and nuclear armament must be constrained. UV rays must be sun-screened for safe-tanning. The sun is comprehended and no longer regarded as a God, yet the-God theory remains powerful for those people who encourage fear of the-God in order to control believers. This tyranny was addressed in sarcasm as Chapter XI Machiavellianism (The Prince, 1517).

Leap forward to John Locke, 1632-1704. He was reared in Calvinism, evolved to Deism, and never doubted his view of the divine authority of the Bible. He wrote that his-God grants believers, his-God’s property, the human rights: life, liberty, and property. He judged that “Promises, covenants, and oaths, which are the bonds of human society, can have no hold upon or sanctity for an atheist". Locke’s ideas influenced the 1689 English Bill of Rights.

Beginning in 1763 under King George, English colonists on the eastern seaboard north of Florida to Nova Scotia objected to English colonial-taxation to benefit fellow-subjects in Great Britain. When the 13-colony-confederation’s founders declared war for independence, they separated church and state, in order to consign metaphysics to adult personal privacy. (Parliament has constitutional partnership with the Church of England, with 26 church-seats in the upper chamber.) “[T]he good People of these Colonies” cited “Nature’s God” as authority for “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, negating Locke’s “property of God” constraint and the attendant favoritism toward “Deists and some Christians [Protestants]” but not the humanists Locke labeled “atheists”. The 1689 Bill of Rights required a Protestant monarchy. According to the ancient philosopher’s suggestion that female&male-humankind must provide peace, Locke seems to lack reliability, and the uSA founders partially rebuked him.

In 1787, the then free & independent states could not manage under the confederation’s commitments “unto perpetuity”, so 12 of 13 met to strengthen the union of states. One state expected creation of a central government, objected, and sent no delegates. Two of the 12 states would not ratify the representative-republic the framers created, and charged Congress to add a Bill of Rights. Beginning in 1789 and formalized in 1791’s Bill of Rights, Congress imposed re-establishment of factional-American church and state partnership --- Congress and the Supreme Court would enjoy “divine” authority on par with Parliament. Thus, entitlement starts with self-assessment as being a property of the-God and thereby exempt from the necessity & justice of RHI. Not surprisingly, the 2021 U.S. lords of entitlement are the elites in congress and in the judiciary. They have commandeered compassion & capitalism so as to license supporting entrepreneurs and fund the consumerism that sustains chosen businesses. This consumer-side redistribution of capitalism’s benefits distracts both the middle class and the poor from the reality that the elites maintain self-entitlement. The victims are the civic people who provide essential services and pay the taxes that sustain the tyranny and the poor. The poor are kept poor in consumer-dependency.

We, the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” can & must end this travesty against humankind, first, by amending the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate RHI to fellow-citizens rather than support “divine” egocentricity to legislators and justices. Today’s chaos makes it clear that RHI demands constraint of cultures that perceive exemption from civic integrity because they are their-God’s property.

My explanation is detailed, with the intention to appeal to most people’s experiences and observations. I hope many took the time to understand my ideas and independently perceive an achievable better future. Most everyone, whether rich, poor, or moderately prosperous can perceive self-interest in individual RHI: order rather than chaos. The few who prefer the tyranny of dominate-wealth must be constrained by reforming capitalism, in order to lessen the power of church & government-sponsored consumerism to benefit the extremely rich.

“Hope” means “to cherish a desire with anticipation: to want something to happen or be true” (www.merriam-webster.com).

When individuals hope, they take responsibility for neither the happening nor the-truth. Often the desire is unrealizable, anyway.

For example, to hope in a personal-God to resolve fear can distract an individual from imagining the-God.

I’m reminded of the night I came to an “L” in a golf-course road. As I turned left, my lights shined on a man’s body and blood everywhere. I panicked and sped off. Then I thought about the possibility of saving the person and cautiously went back, shining my headlights on the scene. When I got close, I saw straw coming from a pant-leg. Then I realized the “body” was clothes with straw stuffed in and a scarf at the neck --- catsup everywhere. Pranksters had hooked me.

Then, each time I drove alone at night, the fear would return. I would start driving fast. After 2 such incidents, I decided I had to take control. I stopped the car and turned the engine off and lights out. My heart was racing.  I got out and sat on the finder. My breath came hard. Then I walked down the road a good bit and began to enjoy the night air and smell of mowed hay. I felt better, as I turned and started back to the car. The prankster-imposed fear never returned.

Six decades ago, I freed myself of the fear those pranksters had imposed on me.

Pranksters are not as empowered as theists, because no one has discovered the-God. Observing pranksters’ straw follows intentions to discover the-truth. Imagining that a theists’ God is not the-God seems a matter of faith. It’s a faith I accept without fear. I feel judgement in life and doubt anything beyond dust in my afterdeath.

I perceive my most important obligation is:  Develop and maintain the humble-integrity that is required to individually practice responsible-human-independence (RHI).

I did not come by this attitude in a vacuum. An unknown political philosopher some 5,000 years ago, before both Adam and Abraham, suggested that necessity & justice require the human individual, both female & male, to constrain chaos in their way of living: to be faithful to self.

Leap forward to 1774, and the uSA founding fathers begged relief from British tyranny over fellow-subjects and other inhabitants in the eastern-seaboard colonies from Florida to Nova Scotia. An informed public would maintain 5 disciplines --- integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” encourage & facilitate RHI “to ourselves and our Posterity”. Religion is not among the disciplines; The signers reserved 1776’s “pursuit of happiness” to personal-privacy.

Congress, beginning in 1789, restored as much as possible U.S. dependency on English tradition, especially regarding “natural human-rights granted by God”, a John Locke political-philosophy predicated on believers being equal property of God. The 1776 Declaration had replaced Locke’s “property” with “pursuit of happiness”. Locke’s distinction of believers from non-believers is tyranny over the minds and hearts of human-beings.

To fulfill my obligation to “necessity & justice”, the 1776 Declaration, and the 1787 Constitution, my intention is to motivate the 2021’s “ourselves and our Posterity” to amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate RHI to fellow-citizens rather than religious-pride to Congress and the Supreme Court on par with Parliament.

I don’t think we can . . . or should attempt-to . . . judge a human-being’s behavior. Consequences? Yes. Behavior? No.

The mature human-being is charged, by civic necessity & justice, to provide order & prosperity on earth. In this usage, “civic” applies to mutually-appreciative human-connections more than to observing local rules & laws.

Therefore, on first notice of a fellow-citizen, a civic-citizen appreciates the other as a humble-human-being. The civic-citizen accepts the other’s civic gesture, without judgement, whether it’s silence, neutrality, good-will, or frustration. If it’s frustration, the civic-citizen is alert to wanted-aid. For example, if the vehicle-driver is desperately trying to pass, the civic-citizen moves aside; perhaps to observe 2 passengers --- the patient and desperate care taker --- 3 people trying to speed to hospital. Again, if the other uses an alias, there are many good reasons for such caution. The civic-citizen maintains appreciation without invoking “the benefit of the doubt”.

Of course, if the other physically attacks, the civic-citizen draws from strength-preparation and sufficient self-defense. Questioning disorder-motive can come after it is quelled. If it’s a verbal attack, the civic-citizen chooses objection or withdrawal from the dialogue, depending upon severity.

A human-infant is not born with the genes to develop civic-citizenship. They must learn and intend to be a human-being. I know of no culture that encourages & facilitates the above principles effectively. Consequently, many humans die young or achieve chronological maturity as adolescents or less.

I think there are 2 reasons for this unfortunate human development. First, most political-scholars of the recent 5,000 years (literally) were paid by elites who need sophistry by which to control the diligent human-beings --- those who are too busy surviving to take the time to discover tyranny. Their scholarly method, intentional or not, is empowered by the pretense that physics will eventually yield to metaphysics; reality will yield to reason; humility will yield to power; ineluctability will yield to lies; civic-citizenship will yield to infidelity. The human-being is too powerful to accept these falsehoods, so tyrants eventually lose. Global humble-integrity is increasing despite government and religious tyranny: the dwindling elites hold monopolies on evil.

Second, political-scholarship concentrates on the adult condition, leaving the-acquisition-of-comprehension-&-intention-to-live-a-complete-human-life to the most fortunately-independent & humble child, or adolescent, or adult. I read, write, and listen, intending to end this travesty against each female & male-humankind, the other living species, and the earth.

I encourage each fellow-citizen to accept the obligations of being human; if so, they may recognize that a human-being has the individual power, the individual energy, and the individual authority “HIPEA” to choose either humble-integrity or a dependency --- indolence, crime, tyranny, evil, and so on. One key to human-integrity is to comprehend physics and its progeny with the intention to never repeat a mistake. Thus, they must research the-ineluctable-evidence, in order to avoid error-repetition. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted” (merriam-webter.com).

In psychological maturity, the person behaves with responsible-human-independence (RHI). Each human-infant has particular genes and embarks on a unique path to their maturity. It matters not when or where on that path the above principles become clear to the individual:  They have the opportunity to achieve their unique perfection before they die. In other words, the perfection they achieve is not dependent on duration of RHI as much as on the lessening of error-repetition once the vision of self-perfection appears.

No fellow-citizen can judge another’s potential to perfect their person before they die.

Most Americans have lost appreciation for the colonial Tory (loyalists) vs Whig (independents) struggle on the eastern seaboard north of Florida into Canada --- let alone French influences and military providence on the seaboard and Spanish occupations in the south and west.

After England surrendered to France and the Continental army at Yorktown, VA, 1781, Tories who could afford it and wanted to, returned to England. Some stayed.

The framers, in 1787, specified a representative republic with intentions for 5 public disciplines: integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity. They assigned the discipline of religion to personal-privacy.

During the states’ ratifications, Loyalists imposed amendment of the 1787 Constitution to include a Bill of Rights to mimic England’s 1689 Bill of Rights. James Madison took this responsibility, and won election to the First Congress to effect it. Congress’s 1791 Bill of Rights restored English tradition in America as much as possible.

We, the “ourselves and our Posterity” must & can undo 1789 Congressional tyranny over U.S. independence. The first reform is to amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate civic humble-integrity to fellow citizens rather than impose civil religious-pride to Congress and the Supreme Court.

I think self-interest drives a human-being to the study of necessity & justice, and that means physics and its progeny: everything. (Fiction emerges from imagination about unknowns and fantasies.) In fact, my thought is that if a student is considering a career in the philosophy of ethics, don’t spend much time deciding against it.

My favorite philosophy reference affirmed my inclination: https://plato.stanford.edu/search/searcher.py?query=ethics finds 1163 documents, not one of which is entitled “ethics”. My favorite dictionary, merriam-webster .com offers “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation”. What? Are ethicists competing with the clergy?

A Sumerian philosopher 5,000 years ago speculated that female & male-humankind must & can, independently of the-God, provide order and prosperity on earth. I think discoveries since then affirm the ancient suggestion. Since then, scholars paid by elites have created sophistry to persuade human-beings that the-God requires worship, praise, and revenue, and that the-God communicates through the elites. Most people, but not all, accommodate this tyranny by inculcating “the faith” in their children.

Some sophists oppose political partnership with religion and develop secular-reason obfuscated as “ethics”. Think of it as areligious mysticism.

The evidence for “good and bad and . . . moral duty and obligation” is in the discovery of the laws of physics & progeny and how to benefit from the application. These laws make themselves known even before humankind initiates and completes the research required for proof. They are made plain by the experiences and observations of daily living; hence the ancient suggestion.

For example, civic-people never lie, having experienced and observed that physics inevitably discloses the-ineluctable-truth, delivering consequential misery and loss. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted” (MW). The journal of discoveries by researching the-ineluctable-evidence, including proof and disproof, comprises human ethics. Unfortunately, journalism failed their duty to humankind, and the media has made the chaos divergent.

Journalism, religion, and ethics oppose the-ineluctable-truth, and I don’t recommend paying money to acquire personal-privation.

Actions a person experiences or observes can cause equal or opposite reaction, depending upon the psychological maturity of the observer.

For example, if the person appreciates an experience, they may express it: I appreciate you or I love that favor. But not: I love you. Love is a mutual connection.

If one says “Good morning” and the other doesn’t even look their way, the greeter is not offended, because their day is not contingent on the other.

Psychological maturity is not inborn, like the genes to develop the organs of the body. It must & can be developed by the human-being, with or without encouragement & facilitation. When I studied Hinduism, reincarnation made me realize it was just another mysterious promise about the afterlife, that vast time after body, mind, and person stop functioning: the heaven heaven-promise seemed sufficient. When a work-bus driver in Greece took delight in making me run a block with my briefcase, I watched his eyes carefully; convinced he had seen me and listening to him claim he didn’t, I rammed my fist through the bus window; I realized I had a temper and must control it. When four chemical engineers were waiting at 2:00 AM for a garage-gatekeeper to arrive from home, 6 Dutch hoodlums threatened to beat us up; I engaged the leader in teaching me to repeat one of his awful English-taunts in Dutch; he liked the game & played until the gatekeeper arrived. I do not adhere to 2 typical usages, 1) “integrity”: firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values; an unimpaired condition; the quality or state of being complete or undivided (MW, edited) and 2) “honesty”: adherence to the facts: fairness and straightforwardness of conduct (MW, edited). These 2 usages seem to attempt to share physics and metaphysics.

About 5,000 years ago, a political philosopher suggested that female & male-humankind can & must independently provide order & prosperity on earth. The Internet was unavailable; most people did not get the message. Their only survival-option was to preserve local cultural-norms. However, some thinkers perceived certain cultures were not sustainable. For example, human sacrifice created chaos rather than order and did not seem viable. Rather than reform the culture, opponents separated to establish a new civilization rather than reform the tradition. Lost potential for cultural improvement increased chaos & loss rather than providing order & prosperity. For example, the group that preferred animal sacrifice could have encouraged & facilitated local reform from human-sacrifice.

Then, work determines how to responsibly use the discovery. The governing laws are examined for interactions with the laws of physics. The conclusion is regarded as the-objective-truth as long as new evidence, perhaps made possible by new instruments of perception, is possible. Comprehending the-ineluctable-evidence eventually discloses the-ineluctable-truth.

Three definitions are important to this discussion: 1) “science”, “the state of knowing”, 2) “research”, “careful or diligent search”, and 3) “revelation” “an act of revealing or communicating divine truth” (MW).  

During the age of enlightenment, research suffered scholarly suspicion, because the-objective-truth was not distinguished from the-ineluctable-truth. When future research disproved past “proofs” scholars declared that reason was more reliable than “science” in confirming revelation. In these ancient depictions, there’s no transition from infant to adult. That’s Genesis 2. In Genesis 1, the-God speaks of “we”, then “he” creates adult female&male-humankind and charges them to independently provide order & fruitfulness to the living species and to the earth . . . because, being in the-God’s image, they can.

Unfortunately, in the 12 hundred years from Genesis-1’s suggestions, civilizations still competed for a way to coerce the-God to usurp their human independence. Thereby, their culture would overpower competing civilizations. Consequently, their records say nothing about a feral human-infant’s transition to a mature human-being, in the image of the-God or not. Children’s already set minds developed while their bodies did. Thus, from ancient times, parents assumed the-God would provide for their children.

Following your progression, I must say: It’s essential; I don’t know; and I think so. I form my opinions from appreciation to the human-being --- for the last 3,000 centuries, homo sapiens (wise). Hopefully, we are beginning psychological-evolution toward perhaps homo civilis (voluntarily civic). “Civic” means necessary & just human connections, or human necessity & justice.

First, to me, civic culture is to enjoy more than appreciate. Attempting to comprehend a fellow-citizen’s culture on contact/interview is an imposition on their personal privacy. Appreciation comes with informed participation in the culture. For example, a Protestant who joins in the Liturgy & acceptance of Communion, without Catechism & Confirmation does not appreciate the faith. I take responsibility for reserved-reverence during the Liturgy of the Mass. I would not encourage a Catholic to join in the Lord’s Supper in Remembrance rather than in Transubstantiation. I feel very fortunate that I can say that it’s so cold the rain will turn to snow in Greek --- if it stops raining it will start snowing, and in French --- it’s a good time for the ducks. But unfortunately, that’s almost the extent of my foreign-language delights. Also, I’m fortunate to say I don’t know which dance I prefer to pursue further: Rock, Tango, Cajun, Zydeco, or ballroom. I would not argue with the opinion that I am a benevolent-formalist.

Second, it seems society is divided. Some are more forgiving about a person not honoring religious convention, whether they are uninformed or arrogant. Religion exempts itself from judgement, assigning that responsibility to the-God --- whether the-God accepts religious-assignment or not. On the other hand, society funds law-enforcement derived from judicial opinion, ostensibly on constitutional or legislative bases, yet arbitrarily subjected to legal precedent:  Society seems confused by church & state. As a consequence, law enforcement is often in conflict with physics and its progeny, including biology and psychology. (The court doesn’t blink if an adolescent girl pays entrepreneurs for a double mastectomy, in order to irreversibly opinionate her physics.)

Third, humankind benefits from mutual, comprehensive safety & security, so that individuals may pursue the happiness they perceive rather than submit to the vision someone else has for them. The human-infant is feral; ignorant; innocent. They have neither intentions for their person nor awareness of their options. It takes a newborn a quarter century to acquire the comprehension & intention to live a complete human life. It takes another 1 to 2 quarter centuries for their intention to resolve into a goal for personal-happiness. Hopefully more lifetime will enable them to perfect their unique vision.

The infant who is born into the supreme-culture may eventually perceive its excellence. However, each infant is born into a confused & conflicted world. Wandering about the world, the student finds beauty everywhere, with human-arts attempting to express physics & progeny. From place to place the art differs in kind more than in quality. However, not everyone is attracted to the independent expressions. Some prefer dependency on humankind. Tyranny is dominant in the religion clauses of the First Amendment. I think it happened, because Tories who had not the means to return to England, won enough seats in the First Congress to re-establish Anglo-American colonial tradition, as much as possible. The church-state partnership is constitutional in England, with 26 Parliament seats assigned to the Church of England. Anglo-American dependency, despite the 1776 Declaration of war for independence and the 1787 U.S. Constitution!

The 1787 U.S. Constitution proffers amendable laws and institutions for a representative republic, held accountable by the entity We the People of the United States under 5 public disciplines --- integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” encourage & facilitate responsible-human-independence (RHI) “to ourselves and our Posterity”.

The disciplines exclude religion, in order to assign it to personal privacy, the spiritual independence so many colonists treasured. In 1789, the U.S. observed in France that “liberty” is too often arbitrary license to let fellow-citizens’ blood. The 5 disciplines and RHI are without standards, as they are to be discovered by posterity’s posterity:  The U.S. intends responsible-human-independence neither the founding fathers nor the current citizens could imagine.

Also, they continually research physics in order to eventually approach statutory justice. So far, justices have not accepted physics and arbitrarily base opinion on prior opinion: precedent. It’s an English practice. Reform can only come from the people.

Personal health, an element of RHI, can be managed with wealth & attention-to continuous health-research. The vagaries of physics can drastically change health status, so most people rely on insurance taken from past wealth, stay informed about health discoveries, and try to balance expenditures so as to preserve personal property as their last hope. Giving up a home for full-time-paid health-care essentially ends RHI. The patient moves from independence to total dependency/mercy.

Over the recent six decades, or more, government reduced health-care to arbitrary redistribution of freedom & liberty. Government-guaranteed insurance-rules favor youth and the poor at the expense of the civic-citizen who paid insurance all their lives. A low quality of life is deemed government justification to help the aged patient die.

Former journalism schools discovered 3 powers: modern public policy is dominated by public opinion; social media has a monopoly on information; and “social scientists” employ a cautiously employed research-tool --- statistics --- to design public opinion polls to support a political edict. The media also imposed “science” as weak-surrogate for “research”.

In research, statistics may be employed in early experiments to identify controlling variables, intending to find the most dominate variable for inclusion in model-testing. In “science” the use of statistics can be reversed; that is, use statistics to eliminate controlling variables from the study. For example, questionnaires for a gun-control poll might ask if the participant is a hunter, and in the evaluation, reduce or eliminate hunter participation in the analysis.

Most people are indoctrinated to seek a metaphysical power they depend on to usurp their individual RHI, leaving the consequences to the civic-citizen. If government fails them, dependents hope their personal-God will usurp their RHI obligation. The U.S. Congress and Supreme Court exacerbate this tyranny with First Amendment religion clauses. No entity authorizes Congress or the Supreme Court to render civil opinion about the personal-privacy of religion or none.

To begin to reform from the Anglo-American traditions that were imposed on the 1787 U.S. intentions to develop the public discipline of individual RHI, we, the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” must & can amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate civic humble-integrity rather than civil religious-pride.

A civic-person accepts first that they are a human-being rather than one of the opposites: a dependent --- welfare gamer, religion plyer, criminal, tyrant, evil; or an animal; or a plant; or a mineral; or a soul-mystery. An ancient political philosopher suggested that female&male-humankind is independently responsible to provide peace on earth. The philosophy was interpreted, perhaps 20 centuries later, in Genesis 1:26-28; we are free to interpret it in light of 3,000 years’ discovery. The-God is yet to be discovered. Thus, in accepting human being, a person accepts responsible-human-independence (RHI).

Second, the human-being has the individual power, the individual energy, and the individual authority (HIPEA) to develop humble-integrity. Therefore, on the journey toward psychological maturity, the person retains the infantile posture “I don’t know” when that is so. And if necessity & justice do not require knowledge, it is sufficient to de-prioritize the discovery. On the other hand, if something causes you to doubt “the sun’ll come out tomorrow”, take the time to discover that the earth’s rotation on its axis hides the sun each evening and un-hides it each morning at 1000 mph earth-surface speed. By all means, every civic-citizen can answer, probably not, to the question: Is your God the-God? It is important to practice HIPEA for humble-integrity rather than for dependency.

Third, the civic-person neither initiates nor accommodates injury to-or-from any person or association, including self and family. If initiating harm is imagined, the attended action must be stopped. Not accommodating injury means objecting when it’s anticipated and reporting to first responders when it is intended. Under direct attack, the civic-person is prepared for self-defense. These three provisions can be summarized as not accommodating injury.

In summary, moral behavior involves accepting 1) being human, 2) responsible-human-independence, 3) HIPEA, 4) humble-integrity, and 5) not accommodating injury. Maybe spend some time developing a list you want to explore.

So far, the U.S. has not accepted its 1787 Constitutional intentions: responsible-human-independence (RHI). It’s up to the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” to discover the intentions and hold local, state, and federal officials, both elected & appointed, accountable.

This has not happened in 234 years of continual “ourselves and our Posterity”. The consequence is domestic chaos gone divergent. The problem is that fellow-citizens are convinced they are pursuing adult satisfactions so fervently that they have no time for RHI. Almost no one has an independent interpretation of the 1787 U.S. intentions, such as: Constitutional amendment by the people to develop statutory justice and 5 disciplines --- integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” develop RHI “to ourselves and our Posterity”. The world is waiting for RHI-culture.

Since 1789, the politicians in Congress, the Supreme Court, and the administrations have bemused the accommodating entity We the People of the United States with civil-religion, unconstitutionally imposed by Congress for Congressional “divinity” on par with Parliament’s constitutional “divinity” through 26 seats for the Church of England.

The actions initiated by Congress and sustained by the Supreme Court negates the political philosophy implied in Genesis 1: humankind is independently responsible for order & fruitfulness to the living species and to the earth; in other words, RHI. Intentionally or not, the 1776 uSA declaration of war for independence from England separates church and state, and the 1787 U.S. Constitution affirms the separation. Of course, I don’t ineluctably know. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted”, merriam-webster.com.

What I think is that both terms are propaganda by which dependent persons coerce otherwise independent human-beings into submission. Some persons depend on power over others, and some people accommodate that dependency. I once did, but learned to kindly avoid subjugation to others. I choose the happiness I responsibly perceive.

I am reminded of John Newton’s song that once stirred my emotions. I so enjoyed that song for five decades, the last decade of which I had decided that “believing” anything distracted me from pursuit of the-ineluctable-truth. I had stopped singing the song. And then I saw the lyrics projected onto the wall and recoiled at the second stanza:

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

I could sing the song today for it’s beauty; to recall John Newton’s sentiment for him; or to express good-will toward a civic-association of believers. By civic, I mean a group that had no desire to impose their beliefs on me or intention to question my trust-in and commitment-to the-ineluctable-truth. That day with the projected words, a church group wanted me to celebrate an event against my civic-responsibility. Personal silence gave me focus to read and think.

There’s another aspect of “grace” that Christianity advocates, in relative silence: election. By the-God’s grace, individuals are “given” to Jesus, and Jesus will not forsake those given to him; John 6:37-40.

Election spawns antinomianism: the belief that the elect are exempt from civic behavior by the grace of the-God. I am told that by this grace, I am saved from judgement in my afterdeath. I doubt “souls” are more than a constructed mystery. However, I stand firm on my commitment that I will not submit to an authority that coerces people using the word “hate”, as done 5 times in John 15:18-23. I doubt neither Jesus nor the-God as they really are, and I do not trust the Apostle John’s reports one bit. I think Jesus was a man who agreed with Genesis 1: female & male-humankind must & can provide peace on earth. And for all I know, the-God is actually either the intelligent-being I doubt or the source of physics and its progeny --- maybe potential energy, a singularity, or something no human has imagined.

I think everything is connected, and it’s a matter of accepting the-ineluctable-evidence. “Ineluctable” means “not to be avoided, changed, or resisted”, merriam-webster.com.

A culture of human-being encourages & facilitates individual humble-integrity in personal-privacy. Thereby, the individual intends to behave in fidelity to their self. They aid mutual, comprehensive safety & security so that every individual may responsibly pursue the happiness they want rather than submit to the image for them held by another.

Not every person accepts independence. Some depend on power over others: gaming welfare, crime, plying religion, coercion, force, governance, tyranny, and evil. Therefore, the independent citizens must hold the dependents accountable to the laws of physics & progeny: mathematics, the chemistries, biology, psychology, and discovery, rather than metaphysics --- reasonable imagination about undiscovered physics & progeny.

In this conundrum --- reason versus reality, metaphysics vs physics, personal privacy in human-connections can be guided by humble-integrity rather than by accommodating collective dissidence.

It’s so important I don’t think the entity We the People of the United States should accept “personal responsibility”: our history affirmed to the world responsible-human-independence (RHI), so far, Congressionally bemused by religion.

To assure U.S. independence --- the RHI that is proffered in the 1787 U.S. Constitution, backed by both the 1776 Declaration and the 5,000 year-old political philosophy inferred in Genesis 1:26-28, we, the “ourselves and our Posterity” of 2021, must & can amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate civic RHI rather than civil religious pride.

The defiant addition of “. . . so help me God” to oaths of office is an unconstitutional travesty against the entity We the People of the United Sates. The people look to the ultimate “ourselves and our Posterity” to approach discovery and comprehension of the-God and would never forsake the-God for someone’s personal-God or institutional-God. By approving & practicing this breech of the 1787 Constitution, the U.S. Supreme Court alienates itself from the-God, whether intelligent being or the source of physics. By rejecting the-God of “E Pluribus Unum” to impose “In God We Trust”, the Congress put the U.S. in jeopardy in 1956, and it has been downhill since; not due to vengeance by the-God but according to federal & states pride accommodated by fellow-citizens. In a culture of RHI, there’s no call for a coercive pledge of allegiance to the flag, and no excuse for imposing a prayer that neglects the-God.

The first public agency in the U.S. is the voting citizen. Evidence of personal responsibility, RHI, could be . . . should be required for license to vote in local, state, and federal elections. I think concrete evidence of personal trust-in & commitment-to the 1787 U.S. Constitution would suffice. The applicant to for voting license would present their interpretation of the 1787 intentions along with one evidence of their recent behavior to aid accomplishment. For example, I think first, the 1787 Constitution is amendable so that “ourselves and our Posterity” can continually develop RHI and statutory justice. And second, its preamble proffers 5 public disciplines --- integrity, justice, peace, strength, and prosperity, “in order to” encourage & facilitate RHI “to ourselves and our posterity”. Before 1787, it was ineluctably evident that religion cannot be one of the 5 public disciplines. And after France’s bloody revolution of 1789, it was obvious that “liberty” is no substitute for “independence”: liberty is too often taken as license to let fellow-citizens’ blood.

By all means, the dissident citizen who cannot qualify to vote under the above principles or better ought not be elected or appointed to local, state, or federal office.

Personal responsibility is critical to public agency, and it should be gaged by RHI, keeping pursuit of the-God in personal-privacy.

Freedom of expression comes with civic responsibility. It’s a responsibility the RHI adolescent, politically-powerful First Congress denied when it ratified the 1791 Bill of Rights to restore elements of the 1689 English Bill of Rights. Among other injury to the 1776 uSA Declaration and the 1787 U.S. Constitution, Congress imposed “freedom of religion” so as to mimic England’s constitutional requirement of a Protestant monarchy. Factional-Protestant-American-pastors would partner for Congress’s “divinity” on par with the Church of England’s 26-seat membership in Parliament. The U.S. Supreme Court aids this tyranny over the people. We, the 2021 “ourselves and our Posterity” must & can amend the First Amendment so as to encourage & facilitate civic RHI instead of civil-religious-beliefs.

Human-responsibility was suggested 5,000 years ago, 1,200 years before Abraham was born. The suggestion as interpreted as a blessing from the-God, 2,000 years later in Genesis 1:26-28. We, the “ourselves and our Posterity” of 2021, are independent to interpret the essential message in light humankind’s discoveries from ineluctable-evidence in the recent 3,000 years:  Female & male-humankind must & can-independently provide order & fruitfulness to the living species & to the earth. In the simplest RHI example, physical attraction need-not . . . ought-not cause sexual intimacy before the couple psychologically bond for life; it’s a public issue because a human-person’s conception can happen. Human-procreation is controlled by the laws of physics rather than by legal precedent. Yet legal precedent continues to defend men in the abuse of competitive female beauty:  Rape and abortion dominate public attention.

In a more complex example, the legendary Abraham & Sara erroneously elected ancient fertility-management, using Hagar as direct-surrogate-mother. Hagar, predictably claimed obligating-bond, and the consequence was chaos rather than order. The descendant-chaos increased exponentially and now seems divergent. All three parties were ignorant of our view of Genesis 1, yet were competitive rather than cooperative in the plan and outcome. They are without excuse, legend or real.

Many people discount these considerations, for example, thinking suggestions like:  Yes, but that was an Old Testament story; or the human being must observe evil to motivate and inspire the-good. I view it not as evil vs the-good, but as reason versus reality; metaphysics vs physics (physics and its progeny, such as biology & psychology). It seems ineluctable (not to be avoided, changed, or resisted) that metaphysics, which is imagination without discovery, is eventually corrected by physics. For example, the earth, once thought to be flat with water below and heaven above, is like a globe orbiting in our galaxy, which orbits in our universe.

Moreover, prudent persons never lie, anticipating that physics will eventually disclose truth. For example, the person who claims to be a God must avoid injury that might spill blood. And consider the spouse, weakening before death, who asks the other: Did you ever cheat on me? The other is prudent to confess and sincerely make amends. The question affirms that the other’s spouse knew, perhaps from psychological signals, and forgave long ago:  It’s the cheater’s singular opportunity to accept & reward forgiveness after the cheater’s lie against personal-fidelity. Jesus, who some say is the-God, may have said “Before Abraham was born I AM” which implies authorship of Genesis 1. Thus, the person who does not accept that a human-being must & can constrain chaos in their behavior and develop responsible-human-independence (RHI) may be rebuking the metaphysical if not physical Jesus.

RHI requires humble-integrity by which to gage personal-privacy; that is, the human-independence to develop fidelity to self. By inference, the person who accepts that they are a human-being may develop the RHI needed to perfect their unique person before they die. That’s my intention, low as I may be judged. The responsible human-being has the individual power, energy, and authority (HIPEA) to transition from feral-infant, to young adult with comprehension & intention to humble-integrity, to psychologically-mature adult practicing RHI. In the Genesis-1 metaphysical, that’s in the-God’s image except facing-death.

Drawn to necessity & justice, the civic-citizen neither initiates nor accommodates injury to-or-from any person, association, or to the-God. In order to preserve personal privacy in their pursuit of psychological maturity, the civic person neither volunteers nor imposes religious beliefs to fellow-citizens, whether the other is civic or dissident in their human connections. On the other hand, mutually pursuing the-God, by sharing each other’s personal-God need not be difficult or divisive.

The hope for power higher than that of a responsible-human-being is personal, not public. The person who wants freedom of expression accepts responsibility for any consequences. The 1787-U.S. proffered a culture of RHI. So far, the entity We the People of the United States has not perceived the self-interest of humble-integrity to demand that federal officials practice personal privacy rather than public tyranny. Revising the First Amendment is only the first step toward establishing “ourselves and our Posterity”.

Citizens may take the self-interest to aid the reform, and I hope they do so:  Amend the First Amendment.

Kaklij, I appreciate your prompt to consider “personal privacy”. I think serene confidence to develop the humble-integrity by which to practice responsible-human-independence (RHI) is personal privacy. Further, public safety & security is essential to personal privacy.

Merriam-Webster online (MW) for “privacy” has “the quality or state of being apart from company or observation”. Also, MW for “right of privacy” has ”the right of a person to be free from intrusion into or publicity concerning matters of a personal nature” and the note “. . . a penumbral right of privacy has been held to be encompassed in the Bill of Rights, providing protection from unwarranted governmental intrusion into areas such as marriage and contraception.” Since an ovum is due the dignity and independence of a person, the Bill of Rights needs amendment in this regard.

The reader is reminded that the Supreme Court is a weak authority, because they build opinion on precedent (prior opinion), often reaching centuries back to repeat English-law errors against physics and its progeny; that is, literally, everything. Humans construct reasonable-imagination when physics’ progeny is yet undiscovered. In other words, the court does not accept as ineluctable the evidence that metaphysics is eventually corrected by physics&progeny. For example, procreation and marriage are public rather than private issues, because the ovum is due the dignity and independence of a person. Allen appropriately begins by defining “public” among the other MW antonyms “open” and “common”. He then presents 4 privacies against matching threats: defensive (financial), human-rights (life and independence), personal (threat to personal integrity), and contextual (connections-intimacy).

Accepting Allen’s 4 privacies as an adequate focus, it seems to me personal privacy, or development of personal integrity is the only one the individual can control. One way or another the other 3 are subject to coercion or force from the public, including church and state. “Human-rights” is a political artifact that no one can resolve or guarantee. The U.S. witnessed in Democrat-controlled cities in Summer, 2020, that life, liberty, and happiness mean nothing when a citizen joins a protest-event. It seems my ordered priorities are personal, contextual, defensive, and human-rights.

Allen says every person could . . . should understand the 4 privacies and manage them according to personal preference. I agree and urge people to consider whether they want to be a human-being or not, and if so, assess how much the public, including church and state, encroaches on their privacy to develop the person they want to be. For example, the fact that the Supreme Court opines that not remaining pregnant is the woman’s decision empowers no man to place the woman’s viable ovum at risk.

As a human being develops, humble-integrity can be relied-on to gage personal privacy.
