Phil Beaver
seeks to collaborate on the-objective-truth, which can only be discovered. The
comment box below invites readers to write.
"Civic"
refers to citizens who collaborate for individual
happiness with civic integrity more than for the city, state, nation, or
society.
Consider writing a personal
paraphrase of the preamble, which offers fellow citizens mutual equality: For discussion, I convert the preamble’s predicate phrases to nouns and
paraphrase it for my interpretation of its proposal as follows: "The good People of these" united
states facilitate and encourage five civic disciplines---integrity, justice,
peace, strength, and prosperity, "in order to” develop responsible
human-independence “to ourselves and our Posterity.”I want to improve my interpretation by listening to
other citizens and their interpretations yet would preserve the original, 1787,
text, unless it is amended by the people.
It seems the
Supreme Court occasionally refers to it, and no one has challenged whether or
not the preamble is a legal statement. The fact that it changed this
independent country from a confederation of states to a union of states
deliberately managed by disciplined fellow citizens convinces me the preamble is
legal. Equity in opportunity and outcome is shared by the people who
collaborate for human justice.
Every citizen
has equal opportunity to either trust-in and collaborate-on the goals stated in
the preamble or be dissident to the agreement. I think 2/3 of citizens try
somewhat to use the preamble but many do not articulate commitment to the
goals. However, it seems less than 2/3 understand that “posterity” implies
grandchildren. “Freedom of religion,” which fellow citizens have no means to
discipline, oppresses freedom to develop integrity.

Necessity&justice inform responsible-human-independence
Civic&civil moralities are dominated by the mystery of
the-God, whatever it may be. But necessity&justice drive human development.
Quora
https://www.quora.com/How-many-forms-of-ethics-are-there-and-which-form-do-you-consider-to-be-the-most-relevant?
by Graham C Lindsay
Perhaps there are more forms of ethics than living persons
on the planet. I think the ethics of discovery, yet to be established, is the
most relevant for human necessity&justice.
I think political philosopher Albert Einstein, addressing
science&religion, intended his audience to understand: Research without integrity is ruinous and
integrity without research is ineffectual.
Again, addressing science and ethics, I think Einstein hoped
the audience would understand: The laws
of physics&offspring (offspring such as biology and psychology) determine
ethics. Therein, his only example is that people of integrity don’t lie,
knowing that physics will ultimately reveal the-ineluctable-truth.
Most people honestly don’t comprehend that integrity is a
process. Upon encountering an issue, the concerned party does the research
required to confirm that the issue is valid rather than a mirage; if a mirage, they
record the negation for posterity’s efficiency; if valid, they do the research
to discover the governing laws; they do the research to learn how to
responsibly use the laws; if the research fails, they consider either feasible new
research or pause for future invention of new instruments of perception.
Attempts to act without the-ineluctable-evidence invite ruin.
For example, many people believe that the-God of creation
exists. However, almost no one accepts a suggestion made before Abraham was born: Humankind is able&responsible to
constrain chaos on earth. Many civilizations prefer to explore the mystery of
a-God that will usurp their responsibility to establish order&peace on
earth rather than practice, encourage, and facilitate the humble-integrity
required for individual, responsible-human-independence. Dissident fellow-citizens
develop a life of dependency. Entitlement, crime, tyranny, evil, and worse are
typical forms of dependency. For all we know, the author of the charge to
humankind to develop responsible-human-independence was authored by Jesus, who
reportedly said, “Before Abraham was born I AM.”
I think an achievable better future is possible if most
people adopt the principle of responsible-human-independence. The suggestion is
expressed in Genesis 1:26-28 and the USA’s declaration of war for independence
from England and is proffered in the U.S.’s 1787 Constitution.
America’s pride in freedom bestowed by the winners in war
and liberties licensed by the magistrate are unethical to the
responsible-human-independence the people demand. Meanwhile We the People of
the United States has accommodated tyranny since U.S. operations began under 11
states in March, 1789.

by A.N. Glassberg
Mr. Glassberg, I’m not certain I comprehend your complex
question. But my first response is that some individuals do not accept being a
human-being, and likewise, some societies do not accept being part of
humankind. Therefore, humankind can only approach statutory justice. The sooner
most individuals accept the necessity of responsible-human-independence, the
sooner they can constrain&lessen chaos, in-order-to approach humankind’s
perfection. Of course, I do not know the-ineluctable-truth and can only express
opinion.
What is a human-being?
I understand that human-kind has emerged from 7 million
years’ evolution of biped-placental-mammals in a branch called hominids. One hominid-branch
developed sufficient awareness to invent tools, starting perhaps 2.8 million
years ago, then branched to Homo Sapiens in the recent 0.3 million years. Homo
Sapiens develop language, grammar, and ultimate psychology, sometimes expressed
as in-the-image of the-God of creation. Homo Sapiens has the authority to apply
personal-psychology either for the-good or for evil.
How is the human-person like a single-cell?
While each zygote began as an ovum joined with a spermatozoon,
every ovum is unique in both physical and psychological potential. No event
from ova-fertilization, to zygote-gestation, to birth, to education lessens the
uniqueness of the newborn person. Whereas it takes a thoroughbred horse about 3
years to peak, it takes about 2 quarter-centuries for a person to develop the
humble-integrity to practice responsible-human-independence: to become a
human-being. Few persons develop their feral-infant unto a human-being. Too
many persons settle for dependency: civil entitlement, crime, tyranny, evil,
and worse.
How are the living species divided and what is the “humankind”
role?
Most of the species in the last 7 million-years continue to
evolve at the diverse cognitive-levels they possess, ranging from instinct to
limited awareness. I understand that some modern breeds of dog are more aware
than others and that the domestic cat preserved a relatively-high
psychological-status for 7 million years. Some species, such as chimpanzee
exhibit rudimentary reasoning; for example, expression of grief.
Homo Sapiens introduced a wonderful phenomenon: cultural evolution,
driven by necessity&justice-on-earth. Homo Sapiens may be grouped according
to social approach to humankind’s ultimate integrity. That is, performance
according to the psychological image of the-God of creation, whatever that is. In
other words, the-God may be a divinity, chaos, humankind’s posterity,
physics&progeny, or something else. Societies may be graded according to
their acceptance of their ability and self-interest in perfecting their
performance as Gods facing death: lesser than the-God by inevitable personal-death.
That is to say, as the society approaches perfection, it loses its identity and
joins the-God’s intentions for humankind. Perhaps, under either physics or
chaos, “intentions” refers to the best-quality-lifestyle Homo Sapiens posterity
can achieve. Perhaps the ultimate Homo Sapiens is what we call “humankind”.
Among the species, only humankind has the potential to independently
perfect itself.
Is
humankind the ultimate-posterity’s branch of Homo Sapiens?
Under the above construct, Homo Sapiens is currently divided
by individual intentions to develop lifestyle with necessity&justice
according to the-God or not. The individual can gage&choose lifestyle to
comport to the-God’s intentions. In other words, the individual can choose to
perfect their person before afterdeath, that vast time after mind, body, and
person stop functioning. But not every person makes this choice.
I don’t know of a society that teaches the following self-evidence:
The human-individual can develop the
power, energy, and authority (HIPEA) to practice responsible-human-independence
(RHI). Doing so requires awareness and intentions, both of which can be
encouraged&facilitated: not forced or coerced.
Dividing the complete human life into four segments, first,
the newborn can receive encouragement and facilitation to take charge and
acquire the comprehension&intention to live a complete human life. Second,
more than a quarter-century later, the young adult can begin to earn the
lifestyle they want in-order-to experience&observe human connections as they
are and where they are. Third, in retirement, the
individual can evaluate personal performance and make amends where necessary.
Discussion with other individuals can clarify personal-benefits of experience&observations.
Fourth,
their person may share the-good their lifetime has affirmed and report the-bad
for posterity’s benefit.
Responsible-human-independence
A political philosopher 45 hundred years ago suggested, in
my 2021 comprehension, that Homo Sapiens are enabled&charged by the-God to
independently order&enrichen life on earth for all species. The suggestion
is expressed in the creation story in Genesis 1:26-28: “Then God said, ‘Let
us make mankind in our image, in our
likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea
and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals and
over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ So God
created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he
created them; male and female he created them. God
blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in
number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule
over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over
every living creature that moves on the ground’” (emphasis mine).
I doubt the-God (whether divinity, chaos, physics, or other)
would/can usurp humankind’s responsibility: responsible-human-independence.
However, many civilizations teach their youth that the-God will show them the
way to self-discipline rather than encourage&facilitate responsible-human-independence.
In some civilizations, government persuades the people that legislators are
the-God’s representatives on earth. Thereby, some individuals fatally forego
HIPEA “for the common good”.
Aware or not, to attempt to avoid HIPEA, most individuals
subject self to human-tyranny. Often, the tyranny is established and maintained
by military power. By force&coercion, societies persuade people to forego
responsible-human-independence to bargain for freedom-from oppression and
license-to liberty. Freedom and liberty are bestowed by the victor in war
whereas independence is a human-responsibility in self-interest. July 4 must be
celebrated as responsible-human-independence day rather than freedom&liberty
day. With appreciation to France, the statue in New York Harbor must be
re-named “The Statue of Independence” on “Independence Island”, zip code 10004.
Returning to your question, Mr. Glassberg,
The physics of human reproduction takes us back to the zygote
as the single-cell human person. Each fertilized-ovum is unique, so it follows
in your analog that a society is unique. However, through personal choices, the
person may build a life on dependency and thereby forego being a human-being.
After uniting with a spermatozoon as a zygote, the person
may undergo gestation, delivery, and rearing. The ultimate consequence may be a
person who developed either dependency or responsible-human-independence. On
this choice rests the person’s opportunity to either responsibly pursue
personal happiness or accept what someone else prefers for them. Many persons
pass through life never recognizing this human possibility; some never choose
to be a human-being.
If individuals in a society accept each of 1) being a human-being,
2) developing HIPEA, 3) developing humble-integrity, and 4) practicing
responsible-human-independence, the society may deliberately reform its divisionary
past and contribute to the establishment of humankind.
The society that contributes to chaos on earth is not unlike
a feral, adult person.
I appreciate the motivation to write this essay and add your
name and this date to my “appreciations” post at

https://www.quora.com/What-do-you-think-about-the-tolerance-of-evil?
by Hannah Gray
Ms. Gray, of course the tolerance of evil is not in
the individual’s self-interest. Worse is the accommodation of
evil, which tragically is socially-acceptable in the U.S.
About 45 hundred years ago, perhaps 85% of Homo sapiens
development so far, a political philosopher suggested, as recorded in Genesis
1:26-28, that the-God of creation charges humankind to bring order&peace to
the earth. Further, the suggestion implies that the human individual has the
power, energy, and authority (HIPEA) to constrain chaos on earth.
During these 45 hundred years, civilizations and cultures
have attempted to construct their doctrinal-God so as to persuade gullible
fellow-citizens that the-God usurps their HIPEA and will eventually grant
peace. How a culture can inculcate in fellow-citizens the belief that their
personal-God, a mystery, will usurp their responsible-human-independence,
necessity&justice, is unfathomable.
The human being accepts neither freedom granted by the
victor in war or public disturbance, nor liberty licensed by the magistrate. The
human being demands the opportunity to develop humble-integrity by which to
pursue responsible-human-independence.
Accommodation of freedom&liberty as surrogates for
responsible-human-independence is evil.
Let’s celebrate July 4th, Independence Day, with a new perspective:
responsible-human-independence.
https://www.quora.com/unanswered/What-carries-our-personal-identity?
by Samir
Considering physics and its progeny, biology&psychology,
the newborn infant carries the randomly selected chromosomes from its
conception’s female&male gametes. Thereby, each newborn is a unique
human-being with personal equity&dignity from dust to dust.
With encouragement&facilitation, each individual may
perfect their unique person. With the existing civilizations, perfection is
unlikely, because no culture inculcates in the young human-being their
individual power, individual energy, and individual authority (HIPEA) to
develop humble-integrity. A fortunate few accept both HIPEA and
humble-integrity and use them to practice responsible-human-independence.
Unfortunately, some who accept HIPEA use it to develop a dependency: crime,
tyranny, religious-pride, evil, and worse.
Beginning my fourth quarter century, my life seems roughly
split by quarters. First, I took responsibility to choose a career in research,
to serve in that career, to apply the experienced&obeserved
human-connections afforded by my 35-year career and 52-year family, and now to promote
civic-integrity rather than civil-religion.
I perceive that my person, Phil Beaver, is identified by the
accumulation of choices I made so far. I made many mistakes and used
humble-integrity to gage my personal-integrity. I happily strive to daily
practice responsible-human-independence in self-interest and in-order-to
influence fellow-citizens to choose to be a human-being rather than one of the
opposites: a dependent.
In my mind today was the literary suggestion in Genesis 3:19
(from dust to dust). (Cremation seems biblically preferred to burial.) It
brings to mind that the minerals in a spermatozoon plus the minerals in the
much-larger ovum are miniscule in quantity yet perhaps complete in quality for
human life.
Other than the choices made during the journey, a person’s
identity ends in dust.
https://www.quora.com/To-what-extent-do-you-place-philosophical-processes-as-the-foundations-for-all-academic-thoughts?
by Graham C Lindsay
Mr. Lindsay, sometimes I feel we are in dialogue.
Briefly, from what may be deemed ineluctably worthy of 2021
thought, homo sapiens is a branch of biped placental mammals evolved about 7
million years ago, branching into large-brain, tool-building humanoids about
2.8 million years ago and then into grammar-developing awareness about 300 thousand
years ago. Homo sapiens is inspired, by necessity&justice, to survive.
Metaphysicians say the-God created it that way, and use their doctrinal-God to
attempt to persuade gullible human-beings to pay for blessings.
Humankind has evolved: from widespread ignorance to 2021
elite intentions, for example, by Jeff Bezos and his brother to safely-travel
into space, 62 miles above the earth, next month. Meanwhile there are millions
if not billions of starving children and millions of slaves.
In metaphysical words, the elites developed from the fog to
awareness&ability in only 300 thousand years. Discovery&acceptance slowly
lessen total ignorance yet not every person pursues personal perfection.
In humankind’s will to study for survival, there are two kinds
of academic endeavors: to discover the-ineluctable-truth or to impose an
opinion. The first employs research&integrity, and the second accommodates reason
without research. The first accepts physics and its progeny (including biology
and psychology), and the second develops influential-opinion for believers. The
first seem civic-physicians, and the second, civil-metaphysicians. Discovery vs
imposition. Discovery is in the idividual’s self-interest.
Perhaps 45 hundred years ago, a middle-eastern political
philosopher expressed that “the-God-of-creation charged
female&male-human-being to independently order&flourish in the earth.
I name female first, because the woman is born with
ineluctable responsibility to constrain chaos for her viable ova for life. And
the man is born to bond with a responsible woman for life. The authentic woman
pursues a mate who will be faithful to their family, and a real man chooses a
woman who attends to her physics and psychology not only for her sake but for
her viable ova. That is to say, human equity&dignity begin with the ovum.
These 2021 thoughts are gleaned from Genesis 1:26-28 and humankind’s
discoveries since then.
We don’t know if the laws of physics and its progeny are
sourced by potential energy unleased as the interchange of kinetic-energy and
mass, according to Einstein’s general theory of relativity. We don’t know what
initiated the big-bang about 13.8 billion years ago: a creator, the Creator,
chaos, or a yet undefined “singularity”. I don’t know, and am prepared to be
judged by Jesus during my afterdeath, that vast time after mind, body, and
person stop functioning.
What humankind thinks is that neither a political group, nor
a race, nor an individual knows the-God. Consequently, the person who claims to
witness for God has in their best-interest to admit that the individual who
accepts that they are a human-being is too powerful to abide such tyranny.
The person who appreciates the message expressed in Genesis
1:26-28 accepts the human individual power, the individual energy, and the
individual authority (HIPEA) to intend&practice
responsible-human-independence.
It seems to me the philosophers create a journal of human
dedication as either civic-physician or civil-metaphysician: students of
the-good or advocates for a power; influencers to human-responsibility or to
personal-dependency.
The agency/profession that is responsible to maintain the
journal of discovery is journalism. Journalists record humankind’s journey
toward statutory justice. That is, written law-enforcement-processes that
affirm the necessity&justice that is required by the person who accepts
that they are a human-being and responsible-human-independence is in their
self-interest.
I think philosophers are the keepers of thoughts, the-good
and the-bad, there will always be civic-physicians and civil-metaphysicians,
and civic-journalists ought to maintain humankind’s discoveries, both positive
and negative---record the journey to statutory-justice based on the ineluctable
evidence.
The civic-philosophers state the problem and historical
thought-development without making recommendations.
https://www.quora.com/What-is-your-favorite-philosophical-book-or-essay?
by Isaiah Gray
Mr. Gray, I retreat from your question: I don’t’ know the
answer.
However, I appreciate this occasion to ponder. I don’t see
how one philosopher’s thoughts can be held as a favorite, because it depends on
the writer’s contribution to your person’s open-mind. And your person chose to
read or re-read the writing, often by happenstance, during your unique quest to
perfect your person.
An example comes to mind regarding the tragic death of my
son at age 19 in a head-on car crash. His mom and sisters had counselled him
the night before: let the notion that his girlfriend may not love him have
time; let HER have time. They called me in, and I listened, then said I could
not make his choice, but that no matter how it turns out we love him: don’t
forget.
The next day, our world changed forever.
I did not realize it: In conversation with my wonderful wife
(MWW), I would invariably gravitate toward something she could have done
differently. What horror!!! To her.
Tennis reminded me of the many times I played with my son: I
could not take the pain. I quit a 10-years partner’s rotation suddenly one
evening when I broke down. My friend John Harbo recommended I attend the 5-year
Great Books Reading and Discussion Program (GBR&DP), then starting at our
library. The first essay after “practicing” on America’s declaration of war for
independence from England, was “Rothschild’s Fiddle”, by Anton Chekov. Marta
and Yakov lost their only child, 5 years old. Yakov had made Marta a
housekeeper for 45 years. I immediately stopped badgering MWW and saved our
family-five, including Stephen’s memory. He died in year 22 of our 51-year
marriage.
Thank goodness Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Self-Reliance” stuck
with me from the start. But his “Divinity School Address”, also a GBR&DP
reading, has prose-poetry that demands study: after two decades I realized RWE
asserts that Jesus was only a man that expressed the challenge that each
human-being can perfect their person before death; that is, before afterdeath
begins. Thereby, RWE does not seem in concert with either Thomas Paine’s
“Common Sense” or Benjamin Franklin’s autobiography. “Divinity School” seems
U.S. underground literature.
Plato, intentionally or not juxtaposes the civic-physician
in a crowd of metaphysicians; that is, philosophy for the-good versus philosophy
about what-nobody-knows. Socrates’s greatest gift was defense of the law, even
when the verdict is unjust. Agathon’s speech in “Symposium” suggests both that
the civic citizen neither initiates nor accommodates injury to-or-from any
person and that Jesus’s possible-message of unique-personal-perfection existed
450 years before Jesus.
The author of Genesis 1:26-28, born more than 700 years
before Abraham was born, asserted that, in 2021 awareness,
female&male-human-being is independently charged by necessity&justice
to constrain chaos on earth. For all I know, Jesus authored the message. If
political philosophers had been promoting the Genesis 1 suggestion for
45-hundred years instead of arrogantly attempting to speak for the-God, a
government, or the partnership of a God and government, chaos on earth might be
lessening instead of diverging.
My favorite political philosopher is Albert Einstein. When
he expressed, “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is
blind" I think he meant: Research without integrity is lame, integrity
without research is ineffectual.
When I want to know what philosophers think about the
basics, for example, “truth”, I search https://plato.stanford.edu/. Today,
there are 1707 documents found. The first 10 seem essential. The search
“objective truth” has 35 documents and “the objective truth” has 4. My
favorite, “the ineluctable truth” has no articles. I use hyphens to encourage
readers not to omit the meaning: the-ineluctable-truth. Flannery O’Connor in
“Mystery and Manners” seemed to agree in her own way.
When I want to listen&learn, I check Quora questions
addressed to me. Thank you.
(During the last couple weeks I met Isai Ventura. “Isai”
means “God is salvation”; not too different from
“God saves”. Human-life is wonderful!)
