Our Views (Not visiting New Orleans). The Advocate attempts to coerce people to visit New Orleans because of the D-Day Museum.

What The Advocate and New Orleans may discover is that people who appreciate life shun coercion and force. I gained a fascination with New Orleans on reading Lyle Saxon’s “Fabulous New Orleans,” Robert L. Crager Co., 1928, 1950. I spent many dollars there, never with a sense that I was resented, until my last visit. I experienced the trash at Latrobe Park and the trashed Lee Circle. It’s time now to visit “Fabulous New Orleans” anytime I wax nostalgic.

The notification that “my people” hold so much hatred for “white privilege” rather than appreciation for the choice to be of “We the People of the United States,” alerts me to stay away. Collaboration for justice is offered in the preamble to the constitution for the USA. My commitment to shun force and coercion bids me to avoid New Orleans inhabitants who call themselves "my people." That means avoid the city.

The Advocate cannot coerce me to think my choice is irreverence about D-Day. Remembrance of D-Day is everywhere. Remembrance of Robert E. Lee is everywhere.

Today’s thought (1 John 3:8). In omniscience and omnipotence it is not possible to eliminate evil: that would leave humans without psychological power.

It’s human to err but dehumanizing to repeat the error.

I don’t think Dean is trustworthy.

The premise of Federalist 62---the object of government is “happiness of the people”---seems like erroneous John Locke.

The object of government is to divide the people in two factions: those who collaborate for civic safety & security and the dissidents. “Civic” refers to persons who collaborate for the people more than for the government.

Dissidents to civic morality may be constrained by statutory law.

With civic safety & security, in other words, freedom-from oppression, most persons may work to acquire the liberty-to responsibly pursue the happiness they want rather than the dictates of government, a tradition, or an ideology.

It seems unlikely that dissidents can confuse themselves over freedom-from vs liberty-to, or become bemused with equality. Dissidents cannot confuse a civic people.

Professor Zuckert and Ms. Weiner, I appreciate this Q&A.

I read Machiavelli as though he is advising me how I might be a civic citizen, as in one who collaborates with the willing people more than with the municipality. In other words, Machiavelli's observation of cities shows that they cannot be trusted to protect the safety and security of the people, so the people must attend to justice. That is, cities must have leaders, who are of necessity erroneous humans and since the city is their focus the errors tend to cause loss and misery for the people.

I do not claim that my view is correct, only that it provides a different view of some of Machiavelli's harsh statements. They turn out to be indictment of the prince but enlightenment for the people. Abraham Lincoln said, in his first inaugural address that  ultimate justice comes from the people. Machiavelli might respond, "Only a civic people, or people for justice more than for the city."

Reading The Prince, Chapter XI, it seems Machiavelli warns the people to disallow the priest-politician-partnership. In other words, he urged the people to enjoy spiritual life but separate it from civic justice; that is, separate church from state and state from church. He adds that in a religious city only a dreamer would make that suggestion.

Our Views (President Trump negotiates trade). Congratulations to The Advocate for recognizing a negotiation led by President Trump that incidentally benefits Louisiana people.

I suppose the derogatory quotation of a doubtful opinion perhaps coming from the Associated Press was included for “balance” in the congratulations. I look forward to the day when The Advocate kicks in with, “Of course, based on the evidence, it seems the Associated Press cannot be trusted.”

I think President Trump is a positive influence who overcomes silly attacks on his persona. He certainly won my vote against the GOP field and my vote against the DNC weakness, even though I do not condone behaviors that have been reported about him and may be true. I hope for the day The Advocate feels no need to ridicule this person, regardless of what the liberal -democrat media does and the liberal-democrats, clergy coalitions and AMO, and worse think.

We’ll see.

  

Today’s thought (Psalms 122:1). With G.E. Dean around to judge God’s people, there seems no need for God . . . whatever that is.

Dean’s blasphemous practice (Matthew 7:1) seems like personal hubris or pride---egocentric gullibility. Humility is a good shield against egocentric-gullibility.

Regarding the mysterious coercion Dean practices, doubt can empower the reader to disbelief. I don’t trust Dean.

Letters.

Dionne’s agendumb (Stadler). Some people erroneously belittle Albert Einstein's political knowledge, but he expressed the truth about lying.

Einstein resolved the competition between dominant-opinion and the-objective-truth, pointing out that they come from the same source. His only illustration was to state that a civic people don’t lie to each other so that they can communicate. “Civic” refers to citizens for the people more than for the city. (This paragraph is my interpretation of Einstein’s 1941 speech delivered in modern public vernacular, which obfuscates meanings. For example, by "religion" perhaps Einstein meant trust and commitment that your noble work will help.)

Writers like Dionne train readers in the art of detecting liars (as in know the lies), empowering civic people to know their preference when it is time to vote for personal benefits rather than for a cause that wants your sacrifices and those of your posterity (children, grandchildren and beyond).

What I object to is The Advocate choosing too many writers that seem to lie. Sometimes two columns by one liar in the same day. Maybe there’s a paucity of writers who express the-objective-truth rather than somebody’s agendumb.

Lying media (Harrison). I agree with your assessment and vision for you.

  

However, I hope President Trump will help fulfill some of my dreams or better---bring enough attention to a civic people (citizens for the people more than for the state) to accomplish the following:

1.    Convince 2/3 of inhabitants that it’s not “We the People,” it’s “We the People of the United States.” And the United States are no longer 13 in number but are 50. And that secession is not a consideration for a civic people---those who read, comprehend, modify for modern living, practice, promote, and celebrate the agreement stated in the preamble to the constitution for the USA.

2.    In his speeches, President Trump already makes it clear that the people are divided into a civic people and dissidents, dissidents being those who do not want “safety & security.” Trump clearly emphasizes freedom of religion yet favors Judeo-Christianity for reasons he understands. I think it’s because despite believers’ spiritual hopes and comforts, most Judeo-Christians collaborate for safety & security.

3.    Help establish voluntary public-integrity rather than conflict for either dominant-opinion or chaos.

4.    Clarify that America has always offered freedom-from oppression and the opportunity to earn the liberty-to responsibly pursue preferences rather than someone else’s idea of happiness.

5.    Convert the Americans who want a nanny state into people who understand “freedom-from and liberty-to” and intend to live their unique, full life.

6.    More, but that’s enough for now.

Food not the right variable for controlling population (Walter Williams). Thank you, The Advocate for a column to my liking in a deluge of liberal writing.

I especially like Williams’s recipe for personal liberty: private property rights, the rule of law, and near capitalism rather than socialism’s cousins. This may be sufficient for adults, but it falls short for children---the most vulnerable persons.

A man and a woman should not conceive a child, whether directly or technologically, if they do not appreciate the child as an elite being. Since the child is an elite being, he or she is due an elite education. With the power of the Internet, parents can coach their children into elite educations. You may need a coach, I think, but I like courses at coursera.org, for example.

  

Marshall plan renewed (Gunter Bischof). To David Martin: What a spineless writer you express! You must be mimicking some writers for the Associated Press.

  

You call on another writer (who, however, by your act cannot claim anonymity) and then defend Japan’s opinion and Germany’s opinion instead of President Trump’s bold action, in my paraphrase: “No longer can you free-load on the USA. You must deliver the armies, the technology, and the funding to defeat our mutual enemies together. The Marshall Plan ended in 1952.”

You won’t find me in your audience or buying your book. I have better books to read and speakers to hear.

Besides, I have sworn to avoid Mitch Landrieu's influence. People there call me "old, white, man." All those years they picked my opened pocket I erroneously thought they just looked at me as a person.

  

$5 million more (Page 1B). Drake got one Phil-demerit when he changed him mind about a charter school. This is the second demerit. One more and I’ll want him gone. My prime public-education-interest is children coached to take charge of their acquisition of understanding and intent.

  

Low interracial marriage rate (Page 1B). The main cause of the local segregation is five-decades of Alinsky-Marxist organizing (AMO), its use by black-power and black-liberation theology, and local beliefs.

Alinsky was the leader of poor church in America. Marx was a classic predictor of the oppressed overcoming the oppressor. The historical sequence is Marx in Germany, Al Capone in Chicago, Saul Alinsky in Chicago, Jeremiah Wright in Chicago, and Barack Obama in Chicago. Google "D. L. Adams + Alinsky."

  

The idea is that whites are the oppressors and blacks are the oppressed, but AMO disruptions will overcome. There is nothing wrong with people preserving traditions, preferences, and other distinctions, but most citizens may choose to collaborate for voluntary public-integrity. In other words, collaborate for broadly-defined-public-safety-&-security.

Our Views (Let us, The Advocate, show spinelessness). After pointing out that the gas tax needed a 70% vote, The Advocate presents this “spineless” idea: “Given the hot partisanship in the Republican-led House, Gov. John Bel Edwards kept a low profile on the issue.”

  

I expressed my support for 20 cents gas tax increase many times, even though I am on fixed income. I do not like the parking lots working people suffer on major roads.

  

From prison reform task force to roads to flood victims to education---no matter where you turn---Louisiana’s No. 1, the people who want safety & security get no help from Gov. Edwards.

Today’s thought (June 3, Christopher Simon, Matthew 6:25). In addition to food, clothing, and shelter, there must be savings for retirement.

When someone wants a service or product, they must pay the provider enough to live on plus enough to save for retirement. If the service provider is not aware enough to save, the savings should be set aside for them.

I was not aware that bills are manipulated for political power by selection of committee, for example GOP dominated B vs DNC dominated C.

I’m for changing the possibility of such arrangements, however it may be done---constitutional convention or other.

Evidence Dr. K is lost (Charles Krauthammer). You make a good case that President Trump is confronting NATO with five decades of USA frustration over European free-loading.

You present the absence of evidence that NATO members are actually contributing their fair share or making public progress. Yet you complain that Germany is whining.

I think you want my two votes for Donald Trump to fail, and I voted for the people. What is your excuse for taking Angela Merkel’s side in a negotiation with the President of the USA?

Have you turned liberal democrat? Were you a fake critic of Barack Obama?

Death penalty proponent (Page 1A). Hat’s off to Hugo Holland for a great civic service and witness to safety & security according to the-objective-truth instead of religious beliefs.

Holland was fired from his first job as prosecutor when the guy who took over essentially told him he “was not Christian enough.” Christians may read Matthew 7:1, CJB, “Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged.” In fact, Pope Francis should have read CJB before chiding candidate Donald Trump over “building walls” instead of bridges (Dona Bean).

I don’t condone Holland’s “eye for an eye” motto, though, as it is refuted in Matthew 5:38-42. The list of possessions to be freely given on aggression by the other party does not include life itself. People quote the Bible with more erroneous religious beliefs.

I appreciate Holland’s recent work, but hearing that our DA, Hillar Moore, III wants to keep the death penalty was enough to convince me that my opinion is well grounded: The death penalty is essential. Furhther, I think DNA evidence can be used to make the process more efficient.

I wish The Advocate would do a feature on the necessity to keep religion out of civic morality, where “civic” refers to the people collaborating for justice in life leaving hopes for the afterdeath a private pursuit. The Church-idea that civic justice lets a person live after raping someone and then killing the rape-victim may be refuted and purged from the argument by a civic people.

Civic morality divides inhabitants according to understanding, trust, and commitment to the preamble to the constitution for the USA: a civic people vs dissidents. Early on, some Christian leaders labeled the preamble “secular,” obfuscating the fact that it is neutral to religion. 

Nevertheless, many citizens including Christians reject erroneous Bible beliefs (a lot of the Bible) in order to collaborate for justice.

Our Views (abysmal politics). To Maura Brady Sharp: As a citizen collaborating with other citizens, it seems to me elected officials do not show evidence that they remain citizens. They feel no need to earn appreciation.

I testified in committee hearings and sometimes felt my testimony was effective, because fellow citizens appreciated my witness. However, not once did I sense that the committee appreciated my opinion or me. On some occasions, I felt rebuked before I witnessed. For example, “Phil, do you feel you must speak?” when my green card came up. Thank goodness I responded, “I’d like to.” Another time the chair mumbled the title of the education corporation I represent: A Civic People of the United States, as though she did not want the participants to know. Another time, during testimony, two senators on the panel conversed and laughed when I said that Abraham Lincoln was a revisionist regarding US history and stated why. 

Next time I witness, it will be with civic sovereignty, “civic” meaning citizen of humanity more than of the state.

There’s an atmosphere at the capital that the citizen needs legislative propriety while the elected officials behave carelessly---expect fellow officials to be curt, rude, and blunt. Officials are busy; address them with respect! Before respect there must be appreciation.

I have yet to experience at the capital anything to appreciate beyond citizens. When an elected official forgets he or she is a citizen, there is no chance for respect.

I have asked my representatives to vote against SB 1.

Today’s thought (Proverbs 29:1). If drinking gives you a headache, drink less. If smoking seems to interfere with your job performance, stop smoking. If promiscuity dehumanizes you, choose fidelity.

If humans don’t respond to reality, chances to respond may suddenly end.

Appreciate life. Appreciation’s greatest power is that the person responds to reality more than mystery.

Legislators not increasing taxes (Edmonds). I think Edmonds regrets his sentence, “When it comes to raising your taxes, we plan on doing nothing.” He did not expect The Advocate to misquote it.

  

In its diabolical misuse of freedom of the press, it seems The Advocate wrote the caption to change the meaning of Edmonds’ letter.

I no longer write letters to The Advocate. The Advocate cannot be trusted with a person’s thoughts.

The constitution for the Great State of Louisiana has a strong provision for freedom of expression. It contains the provision that the speaker may be held responsible for consequences. For example, you might be held responsible for falsely yelling “Fire” in a crowded assembly hall. 

  

I recommend that the Legislature create a bill that states that if a citizen brings the case and proves that the press has misrepresented a citizen’s message the press-owners may be fined $10,000 and court costs.

I wrote Mr. Edmonds in hopes of seeing such a bill soon.

Hoping for impeachment (Robert Samuelson). You want to kill my two votes before they’ve had the required three years to start proving the good.

You are an enemy of my vote. Also, I cannot imagine your response to Hillary’s recent behavior. Please write about it. Let us know how much you would prefer her as President.

  

Obama continues to do "what he thinks is right" for the American people (David Ignatius). It seems clear to me Barack Obama intended to destroy the viability of the USA. I don’t know anything: that’s merely my opinion.

Obama believers are still in office, and they are doing everything they can to keep doing what Obama thinks is right for the American people.

Ignatius seems to celebrate and glorify appearances about Russia. Also, The Advocate is choosing to publish Ignatius at a high weekly rate. Once this week there were two in one day.

Our Views (decrease public safety and security). The Advocate attempts to coerce legislators into making bad decisions for bad reasons.

I encourage legislators to keep public safety and security and public integrity foremost in their decisions.

There is no integrity in returning habitual criminals to the streets where they may harm the public and threaten first responders.

There is no integrity in talking of rehabilitation services but not funding them and demonstrating with years of evidence their efficiency compared to incarceration.

  

Today’s thought (1 John 4:19). The problem is that Jesus's love is expressed using the word "hate." See Luke 14:26. I get the argument that Jesus's love is desperate, but I do not tolerate "hate." It's a personal choice.

Damn the victim, we back the accused (Esman). The ACLU sent me a serious request for money decades ago. I read the long, detailed request, because I am interested in private-liberty-with-civic-morality, where "civic" refers to citizens who collaborate for broadly-defined-public-safety-&-security more than for the municipality or an ideology. I hoped to help my children more than myself and MWW.

I never contributed, and am happy to say I will not contribute.

Landrieu (Bellipanni). “Removal of all traces of [a more erroneous] Christianity . . . is an attack on history.”

A civic people collaborate for justice for each other more than for a municipality or for an ideology. It seems Landrieu excludes himself.

I borrowed words from the Declaration of Secession and its conclusion: the North holds “a more erroneous religious belief.” I think the erroneous belief was expressed before “a packed sanctuary at the First Baptist Church of Macon, Georgia, [by] Ebenezer W. Warren, pastor . . . [who delivered] a sermon defending black slavery as biblical. (The Macon Telegraph printed the sermon in its February 7, 1861 edition.)” See civilwarbaptists.com/thisdayinhistory/1861-january-27/ .

Quoting the sermon, “Both Christianity and Slavery are from Heaven; both are blessings to humanity; both are to be perpetuated to the end of time; and therefore both have been protected and defended by God’s omnipotent arm from the assaults, oppositions and persecutions through which they have passed. Why are our slaves still peaceful and happy, notwithstanding the incendiary spirit of abolitionism?” The evil of slavery was plain to everyone who did not want to be a slave.

The Bible’s approval of slavery is another evidence that the Bible itself is erroneous, and ministers who fall prey to its errors can motivate their church to beg woe. This is the historical reality Landrieu’s gestapo obfuscated. The reality does not imply that St. Louis Cathedral should be torn down.

However, if slavery is an institution of God, what woe is coming? I propose none: I’m placing my trust and commitment on ultimate justice of a civic people, against which Mr. Landrieu seems to dissent.

Will Europe let Russia take over (Cal Thomas). Mr. Thomas, you are really writing silly ideas. Is that all writers do? You should not be paid for it.

  

Gov. Edwards destroys his own chance to lead and the legislature kicks in too (Stephanie Grace). With all his unexplained snafus, the Edwards-Vatican-partnership getting in the way of flood relief, the Bankston disruption of flood relief, the poor appearance before Congress on flood relief, the corporate revenue turbo tax, poor response to sheriffs on public-safety, conflicts with educators, LA 1 diverted because of Port Allen bridge, etc., I don’t see that Grace is justified to point to legislature failings. Maybe writers exercise freedom of the press expecting a free pass.

Buckley (George Will). I’ve watched mid-1960s Buckley in debate with Noam Chomsky, Gore Vidal, James Baldwin, and Saul Alinsky.

For a human being, equal beginnings involves many provisions, chiefly, equal genes, equal gestation and nourishment, equal delivery, equal care, equal coaching to walk, talk, and learn. The next key is equal education during the at least two decades transition from child to young adult with the necessary understanding and intent to live and continue to learn for a full lifetime.

Each human being is potentially elite and therefore, every willing child in a civic culture receives an elite education and coaching to take charge of learning for life. Civic refers to citizens of humankind more than of a municipality or ideology.

With civic care takers, each child will be coached to do the work to attain an elite education regardless of the culture. Informed care takers know to coach early. Regardless of all a civic culture can do, the human being is so psychologically powerful and makes so many choices that outcomes cannot be controlled. A person will pursue personal interests, which too often means satisfying appetites.

TOPS (Lomax). To Ben Benton: I agree with you that universities are failing because of liberal-democracy impositions prevalent in this country. And LSU is not exempt, as evidenced by F. King Alexander’s “International” Symposium, “Moment or Movement?”, October 3-4, 2016 and the new indoctrination of dialogues on racism.

Lobbyists for TOPS invariably have at the heart of their plea benefits for adult satisfaction rather than help for students. In this case, it’s UNCF.

Our interest is in the child, probably an elite person who needs an elite education. We wish to instill in each willing child the motivation that his or her opportunity to learn in no way depends on the past. Most important is that the student needs preparation for three decades from the present and beyond for four or more decades. In no way can the community, educators, legislators, parents, or anyone else predict what is needed in the future. Therefore, it is his or her duty to self to acquire fundamental understanding and intent to live his or her unique journey to perfection---whatever that excellence may be.

In this interest, I recommend that the Louisiana legislature and the Taylor Foundation create as soon as possible a child incentives program, gradually increasing qualifications for TOPS in order to create funds for K-12 incentives. It seems obvious that a child incentives program would swamp TOPS and lift education success in Louisiana to previously unimagined levels. State GDP would also enjoy an upward step change. Such increase in student performance does not seem to be the goal of extant education systems.

Correcting Obamacare (Gleason). No doubt, creating personal responsibility for health care has been difficult, and the nanny-state attitudes that Obamacare exacerbated increase the problem. Personal care is above than four times more effective than medical care.

  

Obamacare certainly has made medical unions rich. Little recognized by the people is the fact that a base of automatic customers whose bills are paid by the government positions the healthcare industry to increase prices and play the market for all that paying customers can afford and beyond in some cases.

I agree that subjugation of women is barbaric. However, the people including taxpayers should not fund abortion for fun (according to MWW).
