Phil Beaver works to establish opinion when the-objective-truth has not been discovered. He seeks to refine his opinion by listening when people share experiences and observations. The comment box below invites readers to write.
Note 1:  I often dash words in phrases in order to express and preserve an idea. For example, frank-objectivity represents the idea of candidly expressing the-objective-truth despite possible error. In other words, a person expresses his “belief,” knowing he or she could be in error. People may collaboratively approach the-objective-truth.
Note 2: It is important to note "civic" refers to citizens who collaborate for the people more than for the city.
A personal paraphrase of the preamble by & for Phil Beaver:  Willing people in our state routinely, voluntarily collaborate for comprehensive safety and security: continuity (for self, children, grandchildren & beyond), integrity (both fidelity and wholeness),  justice (freedom-from oppression), defense (prevent or constrain harm), prosperity (acquire the liberty-to pursue choices), privacy (responsibly discover & pursue personal goals), lawfulness (obey the law and reform injustices); and to preserve and cultivate the rule of law for the USA’s service to the people in their states.
Composing their own paraphrase, citizens may consider the actual preamble and perceive whether they are willing or dissident toward the preamble.

Our Views (Mayors’ profile rises in U.S.)

“We are, in this country, all in the same damn boat.”

I often remark that it seems The Advocate publishes opinion to allow the writer Sunday-school-like reflection on reading his or her own words.

Letting Mitch-Landrieu words in
Seems a sure path to chagrin.

But I don’t agree with The Advocate’s statement: Essentially, We the People of the United States are all in the same boat. A personal, civic agreement---the preamble to the constitution for the USA---divides the people. Don M. suggested current division by thirds: willing, passive, and dissident.

We work for a super-majority of at least 2/3 willing vs the dissidents. Civic justice seeks comprehensive safety and security for persons rather than salvation for souls. Collaborating for civic morality is like grounding your home rather than hoping lightning will not strike.

Today’s thought, G.E. Dean (Jonah 3:4-5, CJB).Yonah began his entry into the city and had finished only his first day of proclaiming, ‘In forty days Ninveh will be overthrown,’ when the people of Ninveh believed God. They proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.”

Dean says “Do you believe God? Obey Him.”

It’s a funny time. If someone said, “In forty days, Baton Rouge will be overthrown,” I’d ask, “By the civic people?”

It seems evident that whatever is in control of what-is leaves it to the people to collaborate for civic morality, comprehensive safety and security; in other words, happiness.

quora.com/What-is-the-most-important-profession-in-a-society

I’m thinking the most important profession is citizen, and every person who decides to contribute is essential to the possibility of unique, personal perfection.

A good example is Albert Einstein, who wrote that civic people do not lie to each other so that they can communicate rather than to conform to some divine law. That’s an awesome statement coming from history’s perhaps greatest professional mathematician and physicist! And make no mistake, his statement about lying is not metaphysics: It is physics—-energy, mass and space-time, from which everything including religion emerges.

Aristotle wrote that a citizen works for justice during progress from informed adolescent to declining elder. Ignoring spirituality, a personal pursuit, in every decade during which the person can contribute to civic morality, they may address the challenge.

In my country, a civic agreement is offered by the preamble to the constitution for the USA. It’s purpose and goals seem to be comprehensive safety and security for mutual living with neutrality regarding the afterdeath—-that vast time after body, mind, and person stop functioning.

A culture with most people willing to contribute to civic justice may offer freedom-from oppression with the opportunity to acquire the liberty-to discover and choose personal preferences—-accomplish perfection of her or his unique person. In other words, discover happiness.

Those who choose the profession of citizen may find a service to humankind that serves as their vehicle for personal discovery unto unique perfection.

quora.com/Did-America-live-up-to-its-promise-of-liberty-and-equality-in-the-New-Republic-Why-or-why-not?

Given “promise of liberty and equality in the New Republic” and “why or why not” in a dialog with two parties, we have eight variables in a matrix of three options or 24 balls to juggle. I write to reduce the variables and hope you will respond in collaboration: That is, you speak and I clarify and offer my best response, then you speak and I listen.

In context, I don’t think of liberty, because it seems too vague. I think about “liberty-to,” which expresses opportunity for action or not—-passivity. In politics, I seek freedom-from oppression or tyranny. I do not seek freedom-from the-objective-truth, like hurricanes, yet try to acquire the liberty-to protect myself, family and property. I do not seek freedom-from collaboration for justice and work for the liberty-to discover and express viable options to reform injustice. I would not claim to know what the committee of five who penned the Declaration of Independence mean by “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness,” yet books have been written to “inform” me. I wonder what your “liberty” means.

I don’t think about equality, because I cannot imagine two equal ova: every ovum is unique, I think. I don’t care to consider uniqueness of spermatozoa. However, because every ovum is unique, every conception is unique. And, every natural conception faces the tests of physics viability. That is, the fundamental viability to survive the biological process of gestation and birth. I don’t know how many conceptions survive the eight day path to implantation. However, only about 1/3 make it to delivery. But some infants die within the first 30 days. Of the newborns that survive unto childhood, none are equal. However, every person in America has the opportunity to acquire the liberty-to breathe, to survive, and to grow their unique person.

I hope I have made my point: You may be specific about the “equality” you feel politics can offer or accept my thought that it is a personal responsibility and therefore not anything politics can offer beyond the opportunity afforded by freedom-from oppression.

“New Republic” is not a term I use at all. I googled the term and studied Urban dictionary’s “republic” but found no help. It makes no sense for me to guess what you mean by the New Republic.
In America, “promise” is offered to willing people in the civic agreement that is stated in the preamble to the constitution for the USA. My paraphrase this morning is: Willing people in our state want the comprehensive safety and security described herein and therefore cultivate the constitution for the USA so as to serve willing people in all states. That agreement divides citizens into two groups: the willing and the dissidents.

Historical evidence points to 2/3 willing as the humanly achievable balance at this point in humanity’s progress. For example, during the period September 17, 1787 (12 states) through December 15, 1791 (14 states), 2/3 of states representatives authored, ratified, started operating, and completed the intention to add a bill of rights for the constitution for the USA. In a modern example, 2/3 of citizens oppose government-funded abortion for fun: nanny-state adults “slip-it-in” then kill the embryo. We work to motivate citizens to use the preamble to assure themselves comprehensive safety and security rather than whatever political power would impose on them.

I hope I have addressed your question and the why or why not. You may have some questions or oppositions. As you may observe, I want to collaborate and hope you like my response enough to do so.

quora.com/How-can-I-become-free/

According to the physics of living, we cannot be physically free. However, humans may understand the-objective-truth and thereby become psychologically free. Humans have that much power.

First, perhaps consider the-objective-truth of which most is undiscovered but some is understood. We don’t know if there is extraterrestrial life but think there must be. We know the earth is like a globe and not flat. We know that if we lie we cannot communicate: Liars isolate themselves—-dehumanize themselves.

The-objective-truth exists and humankind works to discover and benefit. Human intellectual constructs do not affect the-objective-truth, even though fears may change events. For example fear of home intrusion, in certain circumstances, may cause a person to murder a loved one.

The free opinion regarding the-undiscovered-objective-truth is “I don’t know.” There’s is no harm to consider evidence that does not contradict “I don’t know.” For example, I don’t know if anything controls the unfolding of the universe. Some say there’s a creator, but everything may flow from potential energy’s conversion to kinetic energy, mass and space-time. History informs us that civic justice may come only from collaborative people. We don’t know.

Second, consider fidelity. Potential for fidelity is fraught with error, because of the combination personal ignorance plus the-undiscovered-objective-truth. Perhaps the best a human can do is not repeat errors, and especially not make errors a habit. With that understanding, consider a hierarchy of fidelities with the intent to maintain them, both respectively and collectively.

I strive to maintain fidelity to the-objective-truth, to myself, to my immediate family, to extended family, to friends, to neighbors, to people, to my state, to the USA, to the world, and to the universe. This seems like a tall order and a lot to consider. However, the human being has the psychological power to not repeat mistakes and not make them habits. And humankind has an almost infinite capacity to forgive when the offender does not intend to repeat an error.

Unfortunately, people who seek political power have, throughout history, persuaded the public that peoples’ erroneous appetites are expected to dominate life. Thus, fear of freedom is an imposed political condition. Most egregiously, religion exacerbates the imposition of fear of being human. Therefore, I did not include fidelity to religion in my list. Yet, personal motivation and inspiration are keys to fidelity. The desire to be faithful motivates fidelity. With appreciation for the-objective-truth, each person may take charge of personal freedom-of thought and not allow the imposition of freedom-of religion.
It would not surprise me if understanding and fidelity facilitate freedom.

urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Republic

Someone asked me a question about “the New Republic,” and I could not find anything beyond the magazine and associated URLs.

When I looked for the phrase in urbandictionary.com (UD), I was directed to “republic,” and started reading. The comments are informative not only for “republic” but for views on “democracy.”
In the past, I had found UD helpful for understanding speeches like one at F. King Alexander’s LSU promotion “Moment or Movement?,” October, 2016: “slip-it-in.” I think it means fornication, and that turned me off, but “republic” is great. I encourage readers to scan the entire two pages of comments.

Eventually, I may write an essay about "republic" and may offer something to UD.
