Phil Beaver seeks to collaborate on the-objective-truth, which can only be discovered. The comment box below invites readers to write.
"Civic" refers to citizens who collaborate for responsible freedom more than for the city.
A personal paraphrase of the June 21, 1788 preamble:  We the civic citizens of nine of the thirteen United States commit-to and trust-in the purpose and goals stated herein --- integrity, justice, collaboration, defense, prosperity, liberty, and perpetuity --- and to cultivate limited services to us by the USA. I am willing to collaborate with other citizens on this paraphrase, yet may settle on and would always preserve the original text.

Our Views (theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/opinion/our_views/article_a3d365de-e4d0-11e7-adff-bb153adee05d.html)

To JT McQuitty: Truman said he was retiring from service to resume sovereignty (as a citizen).

Without its bias, writers for The Advocate might have seen the logic of comparing ex-president Obama’s record with that of the descendent of America’s controversially monarchical president.

The elder John Adams’s 1800 bid for elitism vs Jefferson, championing the people, in 1800, is infamous controversy among scholars.  See nytimes.com/2016/06/11/opinion/what-hamilton-forgets-about-alexander-hamilton.html and washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/06/23/stop-fighting-it-america-is-a-monarchy-and-thats-probably-for-the-best/?utm_term=.9fa891d20730, which begs citizens to pay attention to civic morality. The Adams crowd decried Jefferson because he extolled separation of church from state.

The Advocate may opine that slavery is “America’s greatest national evil,” but I assert that the imposition of religion is a far greater burden. Christianity bears responsibility for both colonialism (the taking of indigenous people’s land predicated on expanding the kingdom of God and his son Jesus) and support of colonial agriculture by trading for Africa’s commodity: Africans. That evil continues to the tune of some 30 million to 60 million individuals in 2018.

One thing about kingship in America:  today’s edicts may be rescinded tomorrow, because legislation comes from Congress rather than the administration. And the judicial branch eventually enforces the constitutional republic.

To Scuddy Leblanc: Furthermore, President Trump asserts the legislation his administration would like to see then says about Congress, "We'll see what happens." He's unwavering in American republicanism---the rule of constitutional law; in other words, statutory justice.

To Joe Diogenes:  I would not have appreciated "Our Views" if the caption had read "Reversing Obama oil-patch injustice influenced by Cassidy, Kennedy and Graves.

Unless I oppose The Advocate's irresponsible freedom, I have no reason to expect better from their writers or to hope a free and responsible press will startup in my hometown.

Today’s thought, G.E. Dean (Leviticus 19:12 CJB), The Advocate, February 3, 2018, 5B.
"Do not swear by my name falsely, which would be profaning the name of your God; I am ADONAI.”

Dean, says, “God is holy and so is his name. Treat him with respect.”

Does God respond to how an individual treats God? I not only doubt it: I don’t think God responds to thought, word, or action by humans beings.

I think each human being has the unavoidable authority for how he or she spends his or her energy, during every moment of life, for every thought, every word, and every action. Accordingly, in every thought, every word, every act, I, Phil Beaver, will first do no harm. That is my trust and commitment for life. My trust and commitment could be wrong, but I doubt it is wrong.

Christopher Simon describes the universe much as Cecil J. Schneer did in 1960; amazon.com/Evolution-Physical-Science-Cecil-Schneer/dp/B000MRI6TI.
But Simon erroneously leaps to 1 Corinthians 13:9-12. Ethics calls for trust-in and commitment-to the-objective-truth rather than the ignorance people enjoyed debating millennia ago.

Priorities (Wright) (theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/opinion/letters/article_1a6dbfb8-0b8d-11e8-b62b-cfd582618e04.html)

A civic culture has viable economic first principles including: 1) work for your living, including saving for emergencies and retirement and 2) help individuals who cannot help themselves.

A culture that does not encourage economic viability begs woe. I think Gov. John Bel Edwards influences Louisiana’s appeal for woe. Legislature, stop favoring special interests.

Also, 1% concentration of benefits from GDP begs woe. American capitalism needs reform, and I think those who can address the GDP distribution problem need to help themselves reform; help establish a civic culture.

Some budget issues (Bienvenu) (theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/opinion/letters/article_1fce932c-0b8a-11e8-85a1-231ff146d0ec.html)

Bo, I agree, but the only way human justice will happen is on the will of a civic people.

A civic people need to pressure legislators and other public officials to stop opposing justice and join a civic culture. However, that cannot happen until a civic people establish a civic culture---a super majority who are perhaps political party members yet foremost collaborators for mutual, comprehensive safety and security; in other words collaborators for human justice.

Women compete with women (Stich) (theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/opinion/letters/article_58ea28b0-0b8f-11e8-af93-336bb86449ac.html)

I gave up on hope for civic morality from Cal Thomas long ago, so a Christian attitude toward women from him did not surprise me.

However, I also hold the opinion that women dress to compete with women. Some women have trophy husbands. Some even take pride when their husbands “conquer” other women.

This hypocrisy comes to mind frequently with the #metoo notoriety. It’s the consequence of a preponderance of chorological adults with adolescent psychologies.

In a civic culture, most women regard her body as a potential crowd of about 400 and nourish collaboration with her viable ova. A real man regards a woman as a potential crowd of 400 and would threaten neither the woman nor her live ova. Couples who usually have sex rather than making love are candidates for infidelity---in other words, dissidence to human justice. The people of 2018 can establish a civic culture.

One of the problems Cal Thomas suffers from Christianity is that human education based on the-objective-truth is taboo.

Columns

Injutice (Lavy) (theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/opinion/article_71fadb18-128f-11e8-8839-13e0058dfe68.html)

I support the earlier comments and want to add to them.

In 1964, I don’t think we knew that the male body has not completed the parts of the brain that build wisdom until age 25 (females 23).

However, some evil is so extreme that it should be absolutely prevented, perhaps by death sentencing.

But one thing seems clear: Lavy, being a human individual has the authority over her behavior. In my opinion, she wrote a wrongful claim in “Prosecutors in Louisiana are fighting [Montgomery’s] freedom.” In a criminal case, the state is charged by the people to defend the people against criminals. The prosecutor’s role is to present the people’s case with sufficient excellence so as not to contribute to judicial error.

If Monday’s preceding keeps Montgomery incarcerated, it is common sense, moral, and long overdue, despite Lavy’s arrogance against the people. Regardless, I hope Lavy reads my disain for her erroneous use of her personal authority.

Now that we know the human body completes the wisdom parts of the brain in mid 20s, parents may become aware and intend to give that their offspring continued moral support, perhaps beyond the thirties, so as to give them the best chance to survive that risky time of human development---give time for behavioral errors and other observations by which they may develop wisdom.

There are many evidences, for example, driver's liability insurance rates. Just this week, we read that “the average entrepreneur was 39 when starting a company.” (Carl Schramm, “Older Entrepreneurs Do It Better,” WSJ, February 10-11, 2018, page C3.)
